The problem

The data already exists. Getting a trusted answer out of it fast enough to act is what's broken.

In a plant, the painful questions are the ones that cross system boundaries. The answer has to be hand-assembled across the historian, LIMS, SCADA, MES and ERP by the one person who knows how. It shows up wearing four different masks

Enhance-Productivity

Mask 1 · slow root cause

The answer takes hours

While a quality or process problem is investigated across five systems, the line is either stopped or running product you may scrap. The cost is the duration priced at the downtime rate.

Accelerate

Mask 2 · two systems, two numbers

You can't tell which number to trust

When systems disagree, teams hedge overfill, over-hold, reconcile by hand. The hedge is margin walking out the door, every shift.

Achieve

Mask 3 · the answer arrives too late

The decision window closes first

The decision window closes first Disposition and re-routing are time-boxed. When the answer lands after the window, the only option left is scrap even when faster data would have saved the batch.

Experience

Mask 4 · only one person can pull it

Every answer waits on one desk

When a single expert is the only one who can assemble the answer, every other question waits on their availability a bottleneck today, key-person risk tomorrow.

All four trace to one thing: the data lives in disconnected systems, so every answer has to be hand-assembled across them. Fix the root cause once, and all four numbers move together.

The common thread

Today, you no longer have to move the data to get an answer.

Many plants still answer cross-system questions the hard way: pull from one system, export from another, copy into a sheet, reconcile by hand, then hope the number is still current. The faster path is different: leave the historian, LIMS, SCADA, MES and ERP where they are, bring the question to them, and assemble one trusted answer from the live systems of record.

Splunk-Environment

Move data into a spreadsheet, dashboard, warehouse or broker first then build the answer on top of that extra layer. It works, but every hop adds time, governance and drift.

Performance-Optimization

A virtual layer queries each source in place. Nothing has to be copied to a central store before the plant can ask why a batch failed, which lot shipped, or which number to trust.

Data-Onboarding

A UNS still has its place for real-time streaming architecture. It just is not a tax you have to pay before you can answer the first operational question.

OT Service starts with answerability. The question comes to the systems not the data to another place.

How it works

A customized architecture, a virtual platform, not a product that requires rip-and-replace.

We prove the outcome on one of your real questions, then expand from there. No new warehouse. No broker program first. No rip-and-replace.

End-to-End_Splunk

You pick one real question

The cross-system question that costs you the most when it's slow a quality root cause, a trace, a fill-weight drift. One line, one question.

247-Monitoring

We deploy a lean agent harness

bitsIO generates and deploys AI agents that query your existing systems where the data already lives federated, read-only, no data movement, no cloud copy.

Customized-Solutions

You get a trusted answer

Ask in plain language; get a fast, cross-system answer with the path it took to get there visible, so the answer is one you can act on.

 The AI agents

Agents do the retrieval. You keep the judgment and the receipts.

If you're already evaluating AI for the plant floor, you've seen the demos that ask you to trust a black box. We built the opposite. OT Service is an AI-agent platform bitsIO generates, deploys and manages agents against your systems but every answer is observable, attributable, and yours to verify.

What the agents actually do

You ask a question in plain language. An orchestrating agent breaks it into the sub-questions each system can answer, dispatches a retrieval agent to each one the historian, LIMS, SCADA, MES, ERP, and where relevant, maintenance or work-order context reads where the data lives, and assembles a single cross-system answer. The data is never copied to a warehouse or the cloud to make this work.

  • Generated for your systems, not a generic bot Agents are built and tuned against your actual tags, schemas and historians — then managed by bitsIO as your environment changes.
  • Federated, read-only retrieval Each agent queries its system in place. No new data lake, no replication, no rip-and-replace — which is usually the first thing OT/IT asks about.
  • Plain language in, structured answer out The engineer who used to be the bottleneck stops being the only one who can pull the answer. Self-service that's actually self-service.

Every answer shows its work

You can open the path the agent took which system, which tag, which record produced each part of the answer. No unexplained outputs.

The human keeps decision authority

Agents retrieve and assemble; they don't act on your plant. Disposition, holds and changes stay with your people. Analysts and operators agree the market wants explainable, supervised AI not autonomy. So do we.

Your data never leaves its system

Read-only, in place. Nothing is moved or copied to make an answer. The security objection is pre-empted by design.

Bounded, not open-ended

Agents answer the questions you scope, against the systems you connect. You expand the surface area deliberately, one use case at a time.

Where we start

Same root cause. Different stakes by industry.

The disconnected-systems problem is universal. What it costs and what triggers the urgency to fix it depends on the floor you're standing on.

Food & Beverage

The questions that cost the most cross quality, process and shipping data at once and the clock is rarely on your side. Perishable product, time-boxed dispositions, and retailer mandates turn slow answers into measurable loss.
  • Quality root cause across systems — connect process data and quality records before the line decision is forced.
  • Yield and giveaway — when two systems disagree, the hedge is overfill. A trusted single answer lets you tighten the target.
  • Disposition before the window closes — re-route saleable product instead of scrapping it on a missed window.
  •  Traceability on demand — assemble a cross-system trace in minutes when a retailer asks.

FSMA 204 readiness

Traceability is becoming an operational data problem.

FDA's Food Traceability Rule requires covered companies that manufacture, process, pack or hold foods on the Food Traceability List to maintain Key Data Elements tied to Critical Tracking Events and to provide required information to FDA within 24 hours, or another agreed reasonable time.

Even with FDA not enforcing the rule before July 20, 2028, the hard work is figuring out where those records live today: lot codes, quality results, production events, receiving, shipping and transformation data are often split across LIMS, MES, ERP and spreadsheets. OT Service is built for that cross-system trace.

General Manufacturing

The trajectory everyone agrees on semi-autonomous operations, digital twins has a prerequisite no one has finished: clean, connected OT/IT data. That gap, between where the industry is headed and where the floor actually sits, is exactly where OT Service works.
  • Root-cause speed — move from plant-level symptom to line, asset and event detail without a manual hunt.
  • OEE that's tracked but not operationalized — use availability, performance and quality drops as investigation triggers, not stale scorecards.
  • Cost-and-margin visibility — connect plant-floor data to the business case without a new platform.
  • Shift-boundary and changeover accuracy — stop losing the thread when the data hand-off crosses systems.
  • Reusable investigation paths — once a question is proven, replicate the same answer pattern across lines, assets and sites.

Answerability before infrastructure

Start with the question the floor already needs answered.

A Unified Namespace can be the right architecture when the goal is a live, high-frequency streaming backbone across many systems and sites. But if the immediate pain is root cause, OEE, cost visibility or shift hand-off accuracy, you do not have to wait for a multi-quarter infrastructure program before the first answer appears.

OT Service uses a virtual layer over the systems you already run, then lets agents assemble the cross-system answer. That gives the plant a practical first win now: a reusable investigation path that can move from one line, asset or site to the next, while leaving larger architecture decisions open for the use cases that truly require them.

Context: federated query for answerability now; UNS when the primary job is real-time integration at scale.

Metals

In heat- and batch-driven operations, the questions that cost the most why a property drifted, why a line stopped, which record is right — span process, lab, equipment and ERP data. The data exists. Getting a trusted answer before the next cast, shift or shipment is the slow part.

ROI Impact

  • Metallurgical root cause — a property or quality shift can cross process conditions, chemistry results and equipment events before the true cause is clear.
  • Unplanned downtime — several factors can stop a line at once; finding the cause means searching across systems while the clock is running.
  • One source of truth — duplicated data leaves engineers unsure which system holds the most accurate record before they answer.
  • Knowledge before it walks out — as experienced operators retire, the answer can no longer wait on the one person who knew where it lived.

Heat and material traceability

Commercial traceability is becoming part of the product promise.

Material, heat and process traceability are no longer just back-office quality records. Customers increasingly expect defensible answers about chemistry, grade, process path, inspection status and shipment lineage and those records are usually split across lab, MES, historian, ERP and spreadsheets.

OT Service gives metals teams a practical way to assemble that answer on demand: query each source in place, expose the retrieval path, and return a single answer the plant can defend.

Example question: why did heat 24-118 miss chemistry spec and was it caught before the heat was cast?

the pilot

One line. One question. A few weeks.

The way we prove this is small and low-risk. You don't buy a platform to find out if it works — you watch it answer one of your real questions, on your own floor.

Why bitsIO

We've spent years getting trusted answers out of messy industrial data long before "AI agent" was on anyone's slide.

bitsIO is a data-engineering team with deep cross-industry mileage in OT and IT PLCs, SCADA, historians, plant-floor analytics, business intelligence and cybersecurity across food & beverage, general manufacturing, and metals. Our existing business is Splunk professional services: getting fragmented operational data into a state where people can actually trust and act on it. OT Service is that same discipline, delivered through AI agents.

OT Service is a customized architecture and virtual platform, not a shrink-wrapped product. There's no fixed price and no platform to buy sight unseen. The promise is simple and testable: we prove it on one of your real questions, where your data already lives.

Cross-industry OT/IT depth

Real plant-floor mileage across food & beverage, manufacturing and metals the hard-won part isn't the AI, it's knowing how industrial data actually behaves.

A Splunk professional-services foundation

A working business built on making operational data trustworthy and queryable the exact problem OT Service solves, now with agents.

More than a decade in the problem space

The work spans plant-floor analytics, business intelligence, Splunk services and cybersecurity all tied to making fragmented operational data usable and trusted.

Primary discovery, not assumptions

OT Service is shaped by structured conversations with industrial operations leaders across three verticals the positioning is grounded in what they told us, not what we guessed.

Observability as the default

We'd rather show you the path the agent took than ask you to trust the output. That's the whole philosophy.

Start with a conversation, not a commitment.

Bring the one cross-system question that's most painful to answer today. We'll map where the answer actually lives and if the cost of the current way isn't real, you've lost thirty minutes.
