The customer experienced suboptimal Splunk transfer speeds during their DDAA-DDSS migrations, averaging only 5TB per day. This transfer speed was far below their required performance levels, prompting them to request a solution to increase the transfer rates significantly.
The Professional Services (PS) team, supported by Subject-Matter Experts (SMEs), conducted a thorough investigation to identify potential areas for optimization. During this process, we discovered that the default settings in the run-book limited the migration process to only 16 parallel threads, while the system was capable of handling up to 1,000 threads, given the hardware constraints.
After careful testing and adjustments, we increased the number of parallel threads to 300, ensuring the system operated within its optimal capacity. Additionally, we fine-tuned several parameters to further streamline the migration process. As a result, the transfer rate drastically improved, rising from 5TB per day to 6TB per hour.
